In May 1982, 35 believers gathered at the home of Mrs. Pearl Altman to share their vision of starting a non-denomiantional full gospel church in Georgetown County. In June, they began meeting at the old Winyah Academy on Thursday evenings for a Bible study. In the spring of 1983 our first and current senior pastor, Chip Judd, began leading the study.
We organized as a church on June 3, 1984, with about 100 present at our first meeting held at the old Winyah Academy. In December, we rented a building on Screven Street, quickly expanding to the "little white building" next door. After renovation, we used this building as our sanctuary, and the original building for classrooms, office, nursery and kitchen.
Continuing to grow, we moved into the old Pentecostal Holiness Church on Front Street on June 12, 1987. In December 1990 we acquired the Winyah Academy Gymnasium and 6.5 acres of land. Six months of renovation work followed, with the church family temporarily meeting at Kensington School. On August 25, 1991, a tired but excited VCF family worshipped in our "new" and present building. Murray Presley, our Praise & Worship leader and Pastor Lee Roney from North Carolina led the service.
Executive Pastor Rod Reid joined the VCF staff in December 2001, and on October 5th, 2008; Pastor Chip transitioned VCF to Pastor Rod. As for Pastor Chip, he will continue with VCF in a leadership capacity and give himself to his traveling ministry.
VCF is a part of Evangel Fellowship International based in Spartanburg, SC.
